Questions Regarding Licensing Our Games
Can I purchase the Flash source code?
Yes. We do license non-exclusive rights to use and edit the source code for our game engines. All Flash files are delivered with the fully customizable Flash (.fla) files with our branding removed and, of course, there are no hidden links, ads, or virus. You can fully customize all aspects of the game including art, animations, audio, and programming. Please see our Licensing page for more information.
What version of Flash ActionScript are the games available in?
Most games are available in Flash Actionscript AS2 and AS3. Many games are also available in AS1. As of January 2011 Actionscript 2 is more popularly requested by ratio of about 10 to 1 (versus AS3). Because of this we first code new games in AS2 and then we code them in AS3.
If I license the source code from you, is there a site limit or a time limit for the license?
No. You can use the source code to generate any number of games for any number of sites for as long as you want. However, you may not re-license the source code to someone else. Eyeland Studio retains full ownership of the original game engine. You may sell the output or .swf file to your clients, but you may not resell the source code. You also may not offer the games as free downloads such that people can later publish the on their site (or in any other medium) for free and/or without licensing the games. You can, however license the games and later sell or distribute the output of the games--the .swf files. For example, if you are an ad agency and you wish to license games that you will customize for several clients, then you can do that. However, if you want to create a site where people can download the games for free so that they can later publish the games on their site site without having licensed the games you will not be able to do that under the standard license agreement.
Once I purchase a game, how is the source code deliverd to me?
After you make a purchase we are notified by e-mail. After we verify that the sale is not credit card fraud, we will e-mail you a link so that you can download the source code. We can also deliver the source code directly to you via e-mail attachment if necessary.
Questions Regarding Customizing Our Games
Do you do custom animation, audio, and graphic design for your games? Do you do custom games?
Yes, Eyeland Studio can assist you with everything from game design, writing, animation, audio, and graphic design. We are also available to make fully custom games. Whenever possible, we attempt to use existing code to save time and money, but if you want a fully custom game, please feel free to contact us with specification details and we will be happy to provide a quote.
Do I need Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia Flash) to customize the games?
Yes, all of the games are in Macromedia Flash format (.fla). Most games are compatible with Macromedia Flash 8, CS3, and CS4. We do have some games that are compatible with Flash version 5. The games are not compatible with Macromedia Flash 4 or earlier versions of Flash.
What is "component-based"? What is a component?
Before Adobe bought Flash, Macromedia introduced components as a new feature to Macromedia Flash 5 and later upgraded it in Macromedia Flash MX (also known as Flash 6). They are similar, in many respects, to a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or a macro for programs like Microsoft Word. Essentially a component allows you to make modifications to the game's code without forcing you to actually delve into into the actual code. For example, with the component you can easily set how many pieces there will be in a puzzle game or how much time a player has to play a game or how many points they get when something happens. Components allow you to make most of the more common adjustments to the games in minutes or even seconds without requiring expertise in programming.
If I license a game do I need to include your branding, a link to your site or any credit to Eyeland Studio, Inc. or Games In A Flash?
No, we deliver the games to you without our branding in the game and you are under no obligation to link to us or credit us in any way.
